Zelensky Emphasizes Sanctions as Key Pressure on Putin and Russia

According to Volodymyr Zelensky’s video message on YouTube

For Russian leader Vladimir Putin, sanctions against the Russian Federation remain one of the most painful topics on the international stage.

In a video address, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky highlighted this point, stressing that restrictive measures are among the strongest instruments of pressure. According to an Ukrinform correspondent.

«Although Russians have now received a signal from the world that sanctions supposedly do not affect their economy, everyone can see it: queues at gas stations in Russia, the bankruptcy of Russian regions, and a deficit in Russia’s federal budget. The sanctions themselves are among the most painful for Putin, personally.»

Statements on further sanctions and joint actions

According to him, the meeting with world leaders in London was the third major event for Ukraine in recent days.

«There will be more sanctions against Russia – and in the direction where the United States has taken decisions. This is a very right step by the U.S. President – sanctions against two Russian oil companies. They export a lot of oil. And today all, absolutely all, participants in the Coalition of the Willing have agreed that this is how we should continue to pressure – on Russia’s oil. On Russia’s oil companies, terminals, the fleet of Russian tankers and the entire aggressor’s infrastructure.»

– The President

According to Zelensky, decisions have been agreed that could significantly help Ukraine in the next stages of sanctions policy.

«For now, publicly we will not disclose all the details, so that it would be harder for Putin»

– Zelensky

The President’s Commissioner for sanctions policy, Vladyslav Vlasyuk, said that the next EU sanctions package should cover the financial sector and the infrastructure of Russia’s shadow fleet.
