Zelensky on Iran's nuclear threat and Israeli strikes

As reported by the Iranian state news agency IRNA

On June 19, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed concern about Russia’s actions, which, according to him, are attempting to support Iran’s nuclear program. He made this statement during his address.

“Otherwise, their public signals and covert activities cannot be interpreted differently. When one of their allies loses the ability to export war, Russia suffers and tries to intervene. It is so cynical.”

– Volodymyr Zelensky

Zelensky emphasized that the international community must not allow aggressive regimes to unite.

“When Iranian ‘Shaheds’ – now significantly modernized – and ballistic missiles from North Korea – also modernized – kill our people in Ukraine, it is a clear sign that global solidarity and global pressure are insufficient. Sanctions must be significantly strengthened. Our cooperation, including technological, among all those in the world who defend life, must be greatly enhanced.”

The president also noted that Ukraine has reached agreements with partners to strengthen cooperation at the G7 summit held in Canada, and that negotiations in other formats, including within the framework of the “coalition of the willing,” will continue next week.

Recall that after Israel’s attacks on Iran on June 13, Israel appealed to the United States for support in the war against Iran to eliminate its nuclear program. U.S. President Donald Trump expressed the possibility of an agreement between Iran and Israel mediated by Russia but later abandoned this idea, advising Putin to focus on his “own war” in Ukraine.

On June 19, White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt announced that Trump would make a decision within two weeks regarding possible strikes on Iran, noting that there is a “significant likelihood” of new negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program.

Israel’s Attack on Iran’s Nuclear Facilities

On the night of June 13, the Israel Defense Forces launched an air operation against Iran’s nuclear program, striking dozens of targets, including uranium enrichment sites and military bases.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the operation’s goal is to destroy nuclear infrastructure, ballistic missile production plants, and Iran’s military capabilities. He emphasized that the operation will continue until the mission is fully accomplished.

The strikes resulted in the deaths of the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Hossein Salami, and the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Mohammad Bagheri, according to the Iranian state news agency.

Following the attack, several countries closed their airspace, and the IAEA expressed concern about the strikes on nuclear facilities. Iran assured that its nuclear sites did not suffer serious damage.

In response, Iran launched over 100 drones toward Israel. On June 13 and 14, Israel carried out new airstrikes on key defensive structures and military bases in Iran.

At an emergency UN Security Council meeting on June 13, Iran officially accused the United States of involvement in Israel’s strikes; however, Washington rejected these accusations and called on Tehran to negotiate over its nuclear program.
