President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that the decision to use frozen Russian assets has principled significance for Ukraine. According to him, the process consists of three stages: a political decision, followed by practical resolutions, and finally – implementation. He voiced these points at a press conference after a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing leaders in London on October 24, answering a journalist’s question.
“First – this is a political decision, then practical resolutions. And only after this – implementation. And yesterday, it seems to me, the political decision has taken shape. Then practical resolutions – we hope that by the end of this year – this will come. And only after this is the time for implementation”
The Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, said there are no alternatives to this initiative, and Russia must be held accountable for the destruction in Ukraine.
“This is the only way. There are technical questions and all kinds of details, but we must say: first and foremost this concerns a political principle. I support this view. I fully support it. And it seems to me we need to work toward a solution before Christmas. This is important, I hope it will happen”
The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, drew attention to the joint efforts with the EU to coordinate actions on this issue.
As a reminder: on October 24, world leaders gathered in London for a Coalition of the Willing meeting to intensify pressure on Russia and support Ukraine. The event took place both in person and online. Before the meeting began, Zelensky met with King Charles III of the United Kingdom, and later he arrived at the residence of the UK Prime Minister – Keir Starmer.
