As reported by Volodymyr Zelensky’s Telegram channel
President Volodymyr Zelensky said that he signed a number of new sanctions decisions, which, among other things, provide for aligning economic restrictions with European partners and introducing new restrictions against Russian companies in the Arctic. He also promised a response to Russia’s sanctions against the Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Sviridenko.
The president announced this on Telegram.
Sanctions Program and European Alignment
“Signed a number of new sanctions decisions. We are continuing to synchronize our partners’ sanctions within Ukrainian jurisdiction, and as of today the EU’s 19th sanctions package against Russia for this war takes effect in Ukraine. We are also working to extend EU sanctions to jurisdictions of other European countries outside the EU. This is a strong package. It targets, in particular, the export of Russian resources and schemes for supplying electronic components to Russia, and the overall impact on restricting Russian earnings from the 19th package is estimated at tens of billions of euros annually”
The president also noted the use of sanctions pressure against Russian structures involved in Arctic resource extraction, with a focus on increasing international pressure and reducing the aggressor’s financial advantages.
Further Steps and Response to Russia’s Actions
“We already know that this sanctions step will be carried forward by our partners, taking into account our proposals in their sanctions packages. Thank you to everyone who helps”
“There will be our sanctions response to Russia’s sanctions against the Prime Minister of Ukraine and other members of our government. Of course, Russian sanctions, unlike the sanctions of the world, do not create real problems, but at a time when most of the world, along with us, is trying to do everything possible to end this war, any Russian escalations, including propaganda, deserve a proper and tangible response”
Zelensky concluded that Russia must end the war it started and has continued to prolong, and that concrete steps together with meaningful diplomacy are needed to achieve peace.
