President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the starting point for peace negotiations should be the current front line. The head of state expressed this position during a speech at the Meeting of the Coalition of the Willing in London, directly emphasizing the importance of a fair and lasting stop to the aggression.

Statement on Peace and Negotiations

“We must create in Russia the willingness to negotiate. And I am ready to meet in any substantive format, and the current front line could become the starting point for negotiations, real negotiations. And we all must remember that the question of territorial integrity, as well as any so-called ‘exchange of territories’, should not be a way to buy off the aggressor or a reward for any future manifestations of aggression in the world,” said Zelensky.

He underscored that Russia should have no grounds to count on ending the war with any unjust result and urged avoiding the concept of “territorial exchanges” as a tool of pressure.

“Only a strong and fair decision to end the war will really work. Please support us in this. The parameters we all know. And our long-range capabilities help in this; and I thank everyone – every country, every leader – who is making their contribution,”

In the context of pressing Russia toward peace, he noted that “the issue of Tomahawk, Storm Shadow, SCALP, our joint production of drones and missiles is vital.”

“As soon as Putin felt the pressure and the possibility of Tomahawk appearing in Ukraine, he immediately stated his readiness to resume negotiations, but as soon as the pressure disappeared, he again rejected diplomacy,” the head of state recalled.

Acknowledging the need for dialogue, Zelensky stressed the importance of strengthening diplomatic pressure on the Russian Federation, bolstering Ukraine’s air defense system, and supporting the energy sector to achieve a just and lasting peace.

The head of state separately thanked U.S. President Donald Trump for the additional sanctions imposed on Russian oil companies.

It should be noted that at the international level, leaders of European countries and the EU leadership released a joint statement supporting the initiative for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Ukraine and the start of peace negotiations along the current front line.
