As reported by the Official Website of the President of Ukraine
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine, expressed hope for the support of the United States and its president, Donald Trump, in ending the war. He made these remarks during his evening address on June 19.
“And preferably to end the war within President Trump’s term. I am really counting on his help. I am really counting on the influence of the United States. That is what can help. Sanctions are necessary. Diplomacy is necessary.”
The president emphasized the need for a genuine ceasefire and the resolution of the conflict. He stressed that Ukraine is ready for negotiations at the highest level, specifically “at the level of actual decisions.”
Zelenskyy also noted that he is ready to engage in dialogue with those who have the authority to make decisions, including the Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, despite the fact that he “has overstayed his constitutional powers by at least three terms.”
Earlier, Putin expressed willingness to meet with Zelenskyy but once again questioned his legitimacy.
“We are ready to meet… I am ready to meet with everyone, including Zelenskyy… If the Ukrainian state trusts someone to conduct negotiations, for God’s sake, let it be Zelenskyy. That is not the issue.”
Putin emphasized that the main question is who will sign the documents. He reiterated that Zelenskyy is allegedly illegitimate, and “the signature must come from a legitimate authority.”
